Entertainment industry producer Mike Coates began his career in the mid 90’s by getting his feet wet promoting a large number of concert tours and producing international recording and multimedia projects.
Born in Europe, Mike grew up in Oslo, Norway. He was taken out of regular public school classes to practice classical instruments when his teacher noticed his musical potential at the early age of seven. A few years later, he started playing drums for a marching band and learned several other instruments including clarinet and saxophone. Shortly after Mike’s interest in the music and entertainment industry increased when he was offered an internship at a local radio station where he was given access to professional studios and recording equipment. After quickly learning the ropes at the radio station he was gradually promoted to studio technician and given his own airtime at the age of fourteen.
From developing his craft as a radio disc jockey, Mike begin promoting small events that rapidly grew into large concert productions. In high school he formed two separate R&B groups that played local clubs and moved on to compete in area talent shows and bigger competitions as there talents advanced.
As a teenager, Mike was encouraged by family members to follow a career in electrical engineering but decided to explore the entertainment industry where he could be more creative. After graduating from high school, he developed an international youth exchange program called "Edutainment" for underprivileged youths. The program was later used as a model for similar projects organized by the European Union.
As Edutainment’s popularity increased, new opportunities came about for Mike. After meeting with several major recording artists and producers as they toured Europe, he was introduced to the art of record production and professional songwriting. Mike then decided to put his creativity to work which resulted in the establishment of several multifaceted businesses including the international entertainment corporation A&M Entertainment in 1997. Working on several world tours with artists such as Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wu-Tang Clan and Public Enemy. In 2004, Mike moved to the US and would later be appointed to direct the official Tupac Legacy Tour which was postponed in 2006.
